I grew up with Steve, I watched all his programs. I watched him grow as a man and when he had got married and had his children and used to introduce them to these crazy wild animals. I changed my attitude to nature because of him. When I woke up and at exactly 11:31 September 4th 2006, I heard his death on the radio. I genuinely cried and I was in tears for about an hour because I totally aspired to be him one day. It’s crazy how someone like him can drastically change your life even though you’ve never known him bar him being on T.V.

It makes me sad when people say “finally some action around here” and similar things, when a man stands on top of a bridge saying he is going to jump. Don’t they realize how hurt he must be to do something like that? That he needs someone to care, to help him and to show him love. They just can’t imagine the pain behind such a choice.
